WINNIPEG — Winnipeg sushi restaurateurs have reportedly been fined by the Employment Standards agency for allegedly failing to pay employees holiday pay or overtime, according to the Winnipeg Free Press.
The paper reports that several sushi restaurants received warnings following random spot checks by Employment Standards inspectors; nineteen sushi restaurants were reportedly fined with wage violations.

WINNIPEG — Eight of Winnipeg’s top chefs are getting ready to serve their specialties tonight at the city’s annual 100-Mile Dinner at the Centro Caboto Centre, where they will raise funds for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Winnipeg.
“For me, I've been doing it my whole life,” Ben Kramer of Diversity Food Services, who will prepare the dinner along with seven other chefs, told the CBC.

WINNIPEG — The doors haven’t yet closed at Papa George’s in Winnipeg’s Osborne Village, but there are already whispers of the prime real estate being taken over by Salisbury House Canada, a local comfort food chain.
“We'll blend into the neighbourhood,” Earl Barish, president of the Salisbury House, told CBC News of the site at the corner of Osborne Street and River Avenue, one of the city’s busiest intersections.

WINNIPEG — Cellphone ringing, table texting and laptops on tables are a growing annoyance for restaurateurs, according to Maureen Scurfield of the Winnipeg Free Press.
“[Restauraters] are powerless to stop the trend,” she writes. “If they prohibited people from using their electronic devices, they'd lose half their customers.”
