VANCOUVER — Vancouver welcomes a new restaurant Nov. 20, as “Forage” opens its doors at 1300 Robson Street.
Chef Chris Whittaker says the new restaurant represents everything he’s passionate about: “respect for our food sources, using what we need without excess waste and bringing a community together around good food.”

VANCOUVER — November is Ocean Wise month, so organizers are preparing to host the conservation program’s annual Chowder Chowdown Nov. 21, which will see 12 chefs in Toronto and Vancouver compete to create the best sustainable chowder.
Chefs Dana Hauser, Fairmont Waterfront Hotel; Tom Lee, Edible Canada at the Market; and Eric Pless, Coast Restaurant along with nine other chefs will compete at the event, which will be open to the public.

CALGARY — Despite a rocky start, including failed safety inspections, Calgary’s food-truck pilot program has been given the green light to continue through the winter months, according to the Calgary Sun.
“It’s going to be very fruitful, just like in any other cities we looked at — Portland, Seattle, Vancouver and New York,” Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi told The Sun.

VANCOUVER — A group of at-risk students are learning how to cook traditional aboriginal cuisine, thanks to a new culinary arts program being led by chef Andrew George Jr., reports Vancouver’s Province newspaper.
The 28-week program, runs at the Tsleil-Waututh Nation community centre in North Vancouver, is designed to help youth stay in school and make good career choices, but that’s not its only purpose.
