CALGARY — Calgary’s fleet of food trucks are failing to measure up, safety-wise, according to The Calgary Sun, which reports that nearly three-quarters of trucks have failed safety inspections by Alberta Health Services (AHS).
According to the Sun report, 26 of the 35 trucks operating in Calgary failed safety inspections, due to food-handling errors and water and temperature issues.
Some of the inspections were prompted by public complaints.
“It’s a restaurant on wheels is all, and a lot of these critical violations are the same ones you’d find in a typical restaurant,” Sarah Nunn, an AHS executive officer, told The Sun. “Temperature violations are really serious to us, so we will focus on that. And what you’ll see on the reports is that a lot of the violations are corrected during the inspection.”
