healthy-vegetablesCALGARY — The health-food movement continues to gain traction in foodservice as Alberta Health Services (AHS) aims to find out what the public craves as research for a Healthy Eating Environment Policy that would increase healthy food and beverage options at AHS facilities.

"We really want to understand how Albertans feel about healthy eating environments in Alberta Health Services," Farah Bandali, director of Nutrition Services at AHS, told The Calgary Herald, while speaking of the 16-question survey. "The goal is for us to really understand what the public's perception is on healthy eating and their readiness for us to move forward with changes."

Loungeburger Opens Stampede Tent PDF Print E-mail

CALGARY — The first annual Loungeburger Saloon Stampede Tent will open today, July 7, for 11 days, just steps away from the Calgary Stampede grounds in Calgary.

Operating in conjunction with the Stampede, the tent holds more than 500 people who will be treated to food, beverages and entertainment. Bif Naked, Swollen Members and Kardinal Offishall are among the entertainers, while the 14 “ladies of Loungeburger” cowgirls will also work the tent daily.

menchies2GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. — Customizable yogurt franchise Menchie’s is preparing to set up shop in Grande Prairie, Alta.

The newest store, operated by franchisees and local restaurateurs Nicole and David Pitcher, is expected to open in the next three months at Mission Estates.

"Menchie's is more than just great frozen yogurt, it is a whole experience," said Nicole Pitcher, who also plans to open two additional locations in Kamloops and Vernon B.C. "While kids always love the mixing and matching of different flavours and toppings, the creative self-serve process seems to bring out the kid in everyone, regardless of age. We can't wait to open this fun and entirely unique business."

Menchie’s customers choose from more than 100 flavours of yogurt and 70 toppings. The chain expanded to Canada last year.
