EDMONTON — Slow food chapter leaders, and members from across Canada, are preparing for the Slow Food Canada national meeting to begin tomorrow, May 3, and run until May 6 at Edmonton’s Selkirk Hotel.
The meeting agenda will include an election to vote in members to the National Board. “The business at hand is to set up a Slow Food Canada national organization, a group that will carry on the same work as provincial chapters of the movement, yet with a national slant,” said Mary Bailey, a sommelier connected with the event. |

CALGARY — A feeling of uncertainty has settled among Western farmers as Ottawa’s new law to create an open market for the sale of wheat and barley remains top of mind.
Farmers are concerned about the sparse communication between Western growers and Japan, the region’s biggest top-notch wheat buyer. The problem has caused a lot of confusion about how the changes to the Wheat Board will unfold. Court cases will determine whether the grain planted will be marketed through the Wheat Board or through private trade. |
