EDMONTON — Union representing the employees of XL Foods and the mayor of the plant’s
hometown in Brooks, Alta., are optimistic about JBS USA assuming the management role at the
company.

EDMONTON — XL Foods has entered into a management agreement with a Canadian subsidiary of JBS USA, a subsidiary of the Brazil-based JBS S.A. JBS will assume management of certain XL Canadian beef packing operations and the XL Calgary beef plant.

“We know full well the commitment it takes to manage world-class operations that produce safe and nutritious products for consumers around the world. We believe our experienced team will prove an invaluable asset in the management of XL Lakeside, and we look forward to exploring our options to purchase XL assets in the near future,” Bill Rupp, president and COO of JBS USA, is quoted as saying by Montreal’s Gazette newspaper.

EDMONTON — XL Foods temporary laid off 2,000 plant workers this past weekend, while later recalling approximately 800 of them to move forward with the ongoing Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) review.

BROOKS, Alta. — The XL foods plant is resuming limited operation, while the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) monitoring activity.

“As part of a rigorous review of Establishment 38, XL Foods Inc., the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) will allow the facility to proceed to the next stage in the review process.
