The coffee and doughnut chain had already offered the option to pay by credit card, but resisted implementing debit payment due to the small average check size. Due to overwhelming demand, Tim Hortons introduced debit in the Western provinces in 2003, and, now that execs are confident speed of service and security won’t be compromised, the trend has moved eastward.
