The Milford, Conn.-based chain, which already has a Fresh Fit menu, complete with eight subs featuring less than 400 calories, now offers 30 per cent of the daily recommended calcium and 20 per cent of the daily recommended Vitamin D in its six-inch servings of bread at its U.S. stores.

Ecolab-NalcoST. PAUL, Minn. — Two will become one with news that the Naperville, Ill.-based water treatment and process-improvement company Nalco Holding Company will merge with a subsidiary of Ecolab Inc. in an estimated $8-billion transaction, including assumed Nalco net debt.

“We believe we can help accelerate Nalco’s investments in its product innovation and sales and service force, enhancing the range of effective and efficient solutions,” said Douglas Baker, Jr., chairman, president and CEO of the St. Paul, Minn.-based Ecolab, a cleaning, sanitizing and food-safety company. “We are excited by the potential our combined operations offer and the improved solutions we will bring to our customers as well as additional opportunities for both companies’ associates.”

Pennsylvania’s McDain’s Restaurant Bans Kids PDF Print E-mail

child-restaurant-banMONROEVILLE, Pa. — McDain’s Restaurant, an upscale-casual restaurant in Monroeville, Pa., is banning children under six from its establishment, MSNBC reports.

While owner Mike Vuick has been given some flak for his decision, he told MSNBC customer feedback about the change is overwhelmingly positive. He added that his grievances are more about parental permissiveness than children themselves. “Parents have gradually diminished their cooperation,” he told the news outlet. “This is a three-part issue. One is the increasing number of small babies that can’t be controlled. They can’t be quiet, and, really, they can’t be expected to [be quiet].” Vuick added that young children had been showcasing “increasingly poor manners” and parents were acting like restaurant staff was being offensive for asking them to control their kids.

TORONTO — Increased coffee demand from China could mean coffee prices will remain high, according to to The Globe and Mail.

The return of rain to Brazil means the coffee crop is expected to double over last year, but the growing supply coupled with declining commodity prices, has led to coffee price dropping from US$3 in early May to US$2.60. That said, the increased demand for coffee in China, means long-term coffee prices will likely remain at last year’s high.
