LONDON — Celebrity chef duo Heston Blumenthal and Simon Hulstone have created British Airways’ new in-flight Olympic menu, which will be available on long flights from London Heathrow, just in time for the summer Olympics, which run from July 27 to Aug. 12.
“What we wanted was comfort food that will divert people’s attention from flying and that is recognizable to our customers. We went back to the airline menus from the time of the last London Olympics, in 1948, for inspiration,” Hulstone is quoted as saying by Bloomberg.com.
The menu, which will be available for First, Club, World Traveller Plus and World Traveller customers, features dishes such as a gin-and-tonic-cured smoked salmon app, fish pie with hake and parmesan pomme purée with warm tartare sauce as an entrée; and lemon-curd cheesecake with raspberry and basil compote as a dessert.
In the last few years many celebrities have created airline dishes, including Gordon Ramsay who advised Singapore Airlines on its premium in-flight menus and Michelin chef Joel Robushon who created Air France’s in-flight menu for business-class passengers.
