The agency reported its price index climbed two per cent in January and one per cent in February, caused by higher prices of sugar, oils and cereals. On the positive side, the report indicated world wheat production in 2012 is expected to be the second-highest on record at 690-million tonnes. ROME — Food prices have risen for the second time in two months, due to bad weather in major exporting countries, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations’ (FAO) quarterly “Crop Prospects and Food Situation” report.
