HONG KONG — Scores of El Bulli wines and other items from the coveted restaurant will be sold this month at an auction benefiting the newly created el Bulli Foundation. The two auctions will take place in April, first in Hong Kong, and the second in New York.

HONG KONG — Shark fin traders could be escaping public scrutiny by using rooftops to dry thousands of shark fins, according to the Associated Press.

“It was surreal. I had seen a lot of shark fins before on the shelves in Hong Kong markets but nothing on such a massive scale. The weather was sunny and relatively dry. I imagine this is the ideal season to dry shark fins," Antony Dickson, a Hong Kong-based photographer, told Global News.

McDonalds is preparing to open vegetarian restaurants in two of India’s holy and most visited sites next year.

“A vegetarian store makes absolute sense in the places which are famous as pilgrimage sites,” said Rajesh Kumar Maini, a spokesman for McDonald’s India as quoted by The Globe and Mail.

Japan Plans to Burn Radiation-Tainted Beef PDF Print E-mail

TOKYO — The Japanese government is preparing to buy and burn beef tainted by radiation following the country’s recent earthquake and ensuing Fukushima nuclear disaster, AFP reports.

According to AFP, plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) has been pegged to cover the costs, which could amount to the equivalent of about $25 million.
