datsmeatrecall2OTTAWA — The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Dats Déli Européen are warning against the consumption of certain Dats sliced meat products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Affected products may include roast pork, cooked turkey breast, ham and seasoned roast beef with best-before dates up to, and including Aug. 10, 2010 (10AU10).  

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products, which are known to have been distributed in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.

"I have received a healthy meal every lunch-time during my day camp for three years. I am happy because I have the energy all day long to play and learn new things from the counsellors," explains 10-year-old Laura L'Africain.

burrito_chipotle2TORONTO — The first Chipotle Mexican Grill to open in Toronto was an immediate hit, so it’s not surprising the incredibly popular Denver-based chain — which boasts 1,000-plus units — would be keen on opening a second Hogtown location as soon as possible.

Well, it’s good news for Chipotle fans in Toronto, as the burrito chain will be serving its signature burritos, tacos, salads and bowls at 2323 Yonge St., (in the Yonge and Roehampton area, just north of Eglinton.) starting July 28.

sodexo_serveothon2ISSY-LES-MOULINEAUX, France — At the core, the restaurant and hospitality business is really about service, and with that in mind, the France-based foodservice giant Sodexo upped the ante, recently announcing that more than 39,000 employees in 28 countries took part in its annual Servathon to fight hunger and malnutrition this spring.

The Canadian arm of the initiative was launched in 2000 to engage employees in hunger relief efforts in their local communities by serving food, fundraising, organizing food drives and holding free nutrition and food-safety workshops at hunger relief organizations.
