The province of Quebec is once again leading the way in this year’s listing of the CAA’s Four and Five Diamond-rated restaurants. La Belle Province is home to a quarter of Canada's Four Diamond-rated restaurant and hotel establishments, and it also boasts three of the nation’s six Five Diamond-rated eateries.
Every year just under .3 per cent (or 165) of the 58,000 restaurants and hotels across North America and in the Caribbean that are seeking a diamond rating, receive the prestigious Five- Diamond distinction.

MONTREAL — The centuries old French bistro staple onion soup is as standard as it gets. Combine caramelized onion, some sort of brown stock, croutons and hopefully more than just a smattering of cheese, and you’ve got the gist of it. However, in a recent Montreal Gazette article, food critic Lesley Chesterman challenged four of the city’s top chefs — Jean-François Vachon of M Sur Masson, David Ferguson of Le Jolifou, Alexandre Loiseau of Cocagne and Alexandre Gosselin of Bar & Boeuf — to take inspiration from the humble soup’s rustic charm and create something cutting edge and exciting. To learn all about the undoubtedly delicious results, click here.

MONTREAL — We all learned the benefits of sharing in kindergarten, but the Inuit community takes that philosophy to new heights as evidenced in a recent Montreal Gazette story about kuakuviks, or community freezers stocked with communal meat.
Writer Monique Polak examines the tradition, talking to people who practise it in the town of Akulivik, north of Montreal. Here locals have access to free indigenous meat. "Some people think when you share your food, you're losing something. But it's not that way for us. When you help people, you get more," the town’s deputy mayor, Henry Quissa, told Polak.

MONTREAL — Police officials are investigating more attempted arsons at restaurants in Montreal. The latest incidents come weeks after the city suffered a swath of arsons at Montreal cafes, which have many believing organized crime is involved.
More frightening is that one of the latest attacks, which occurred late Tuesday evening at Cafe Cote Est, happened while an employee was still inside. According to reports, the restaurant worker was beaten and the restaurant robbed, with the assailants throwing a Molotov cocktail on the floor in an attempt to burn down the building. Only minor damage to the facility occurred.
