|Top Chefs Prepare For Soupstock|

TORONTO — Two hundred chefs from across North America are preparing to serve soup in Toronto’s Woodbine Park at Soupstock, this Sunday, Oct. 21.
“We’re thrilled with the overwhelming support from our colleagues in the culinary, food and farming communities,” said Chef Michael Stadtländer from the Canadian Chefs’ Congress, which is co-hosting the event with the David Suzuki Foundation.
“We hope the generosity and enthusiasm of over 200 chefs and dozens of producers will help bring tens of thousands of people out to celebrate our food, farmland and water.”
Chefs from as far away as New Brunswick, Alberta, Buffalo and Boston are donating their time to the event, which is raising awareness and funds to fight the proposal to build a mega quarry, which is backed by a Boston-based hedge fund. “Having the Boston Chefs Collaborative join Soupstock helps connect the dots between the money backing the proposed mega quarry and the landscape of great agricultural, cultural and ecological importance that the project would destroy,” said Faisal Moola of the David Suzuki Foundation.
Ten thousand pounds of fresh ingredients have been donated to the fundraiser. Eighty-five food stations will be set up offering different soups during the day. Blue Rodeo’s Jim Cuddy, guitarist Jesse Cook, and several other artists will provide entertainment. CBC personality George Stroumboulopoulos and Our Lady Peace’s drummer, Jeremy Taggart, will co-host the event.
