TORONTO — Toronto sun seekers now have a swanky new poolside retreat to worship the sun, with news Charles Khabouth, president of Ink Entertainment, has launched the Cabana Pool Bar.

“Think of the Cabana Pool Bar as a daytime extension of our nightlife counterparts,” said Khabouth. “Day-to-nightlife has become a partying genre in places like Miami and Vegas. And, yes, while there’s a spectacular pool, good-looking people, plenty of libations, and music to promote a party atmosphere, guests at the Cabana Pool Bar can also chill out and laze the day away.”

icons_jefffullerTORONTO — The Toronto Region Board of Trade was abuzz this morning as members of the foodservice industry gathered to learn industry trends, toast award winners and watch an intimate Q&A with Jeff Fuller, president and CEO of Vancouver-based Joey Restaurants, at Kostuch Media’s fourth instalment of its Icons and Innovators series.

Darren Tristano, EVP, Technomic, a Chicago-based research company, kicked off the breakfast session with an industry overview, noting sales of Canada’s top 200 chains saw an increase of 4.3 per cent in 2011, and unit growth of 2.5 per cent, as compared to the previous year. Tristano touched on upcoming restaurant trends and breakout concepts, including made-to-order pizzas, fast-casual sushi and premium pub concepts.

TORONTO — The owners of Hey Lucy, a Toronto restaurant concept, are opening a third location in the city’s Cabbagetown neighbourhood.

Located at 229 Carleton St., the new Hey Lucy will offer Italian fare, such as wood-fired oven pizzas, pasta, panini, calzones, salads and $4.49 martini specials on Wednesdays. It also serves a brunch menu on Saturdays and Sundays, which includes classic eggs Benedict with fresh fruit ($9) and strawberry cheesecake French toast ($8).
