CHARLOTTETOWN — The possibility of extending hours at private liquor stores in P.E.I. is causing debate, according to CBC News.
With five new independent stores expected to open this summer, the government is toying with the idea of allowing them to open until midnight, two hours later than when the government-run stores currently close.

CHARLOTTETOWN — The Canadian Chef Educators Association is holding its annual conference from June 21 to 24 in Charlottetown.
The conference, to be hosted by the Holland College/Culinary Institute of Canada, coincides with the Canadian Chef Educators Association’s annual general meeting.

CHARLOTTETOWN — The government of Prince Edward Island is preparing to reduce the tax burden on diners and foodservice operators.
P.E.I.’s PST and GST will be combined at a rate of 14 per cent, beginning April 1, 2013, and full-input tax credits will be introduced for foodservice operators so they can grow jobs and investment in the Island’s restaurant industry.

P.E.I. Fishermen Demand Higher Halibut Quotas |

P.E.I. — Maritime fishermen are asking for larger halibut quotas, arguing fishermen from other provinces have an unfair advantage.
Groups are concerned about the disproportionate allowances between provinces, as P.E.I. fishermen have 1.46 per cent of the quota, while Quebec’s fishermen have 57.7 per cent of the quota of halibut. In addition to questioning the formula to decide quota, groups are asking they receive a more equal share on future quotas.
