SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — A customer complaint has led to a grand renovation of a McDonald’s restaurant in Summerside, P.E.I.. The disabled customer said he experienced difficulty maneuvering in and out of the washroom facilities in his motorized wheelchair, reports the CBC.

Greg McManus took his concern to the P.E.I. Council of People with Disabilities, who confirmed the restaurant was meeting the minimum standards of national building codes for wheelchair accessibility for small, manual chairs. However the Council of People with Disabilities, recommended McDonald’s follow the Canadian Standards Association guidelines, which would make the washroom accessible for all wheelchairs.

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Police are lobbying for change to P.E.I.'s Liquor Control Act after discovering that a P.E.I., restaurant allowed diners to bring their own beer and wine, reports CBC News.

“They thought they were providing a good service for their customers,” Sinclair Walker, the deputy chief who visited the restaurant, is quoted as saying by CBC News.

TORONTO — If U.S.-based AquaBounty Technologies gets Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval, it plans to sell GMO salmon eggs to fish farmers worldwide, reports CBC News.

“We expect there will be people in the United States and Canada, once the product is approved, that will be interested in growing that fish,” said Ron Stotish, CEO of AquaBounty, as quoted in CBC News.

CHARLOTTETOWN — Papa Joe’s, a Charlottetown-based family restaurant, was recently named the winner of the annual Taste Our Islands Awards.

“We work hard year-round and are so very pleased. Our chef, Irwin MacKinnon, is also pleased our efforts have been recognized,” said Barb Jabbour, one of the three operators of the restaurant as quoted by P.E.I’s Guardian newspaper.
