HALIFAX — Two new vegan eateries are set to open this summer, adding to Halifax’s growing vegan scene, according to the NS Daily Business Buzz.
Wild Leek Food & Juice Bar on Windsor Street, which opened Thursday, will host its grand opening in late June. The 18-seat restaurant offers tofu ricotta wild mushroom tarts, sandwiches, tofu sliders and smoothies. The eatery will also sell vegan cakes and host cooking classes.

HALIFAX — Aging infrastructure in Halifax is prompting the government to hike water prices along with other recent municipal service increases, including garbage collection and street enhancement, cutting into restaurants’ bottom line.
According to Nova Scotia’s Chronicle Herald, one restaurant owner has seen his costs triple since 2004, and other restaurateurs are concerned that it’s becoming difficult to operate small business in Halifax.

NOVA SCOTIA — Some Nova Scotia foodservice operators are concerned following recent reports that specific farmed salmon in the province has been found to have infectious salmon anaemia, reports CBC News.
“My choices to not serve salmon were simply based on the fact that there are just too many unresolved issues right now," said Michael Howell, the former owner of the Tempest Restaurant World Cuisine in Wolfville, as quoted by CBC News. “Any time any customer hears there are issues, they're going to be scared away."

HALIFAX — The owners of Tarek’s Cafe, Habaneros and Cheese Curds are planning to add more locations in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) this year, reports Nova Scotia’s Daily Business Buzz.
“It’s so popular, we can’t keep up,” said Bill Pratt, owner of both Cheese Curds and Habaneros.
