| Cafeteria Workers Reach Tentative Agreement |

Cafeteria workers in Newfoundland’s eastern school district have reached a tentative agreement and will not strike, according to the CBC. More than 100 employees of the foodservice company, Chartwells, members of CUPE that span 42 schools, were prepared to picket today, Feb. 13, after 93 per cent voted to give their union a strike mandate in January. Wage issues were cited as the main reason for the potential strike, with many of the mostly part-time workers earning close to minimum wage. Ed White, a spokesperson for CUPE, told CBC News the employees will be at work today. The vote on the new agreement will take place within the next few days.
