NEW BRUNSWICK — Lobster season is underway in New Brunswick, following weeks of protest by fisherman debating the low prices of the crustacean, reports CBC News.
Local chefs can now buy local lobster as the fisherman negotiated $3 a pound for canners and $3.50 for market lobster, short of the $4 per pound price they were hoping.
Fishermen called on the government to offer financial support. However, Premier David Alward declined, saying the government is “not in a position to subsidize the price of lobster."
