HALIFAX — More than 200 wine industry professionals are attending this year’s Atlantic Canada Wine Symposium (ACWS), which will run until May 29 in Halifax at the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel.

“The goal of the wine symposium is to raise the bar of the entire Atlantic Canada wine industry and create even stronger ownership and pride in our local products,” said Hans Christian Jost, chair of the ACWS committee and owner of Jost Vineyards.

HALIFAX, N.S. — Chef Bryan Picard of Chanterelle Country Inn in Cape Breton took home first prize with his “Honey Pork Tenderloin” at the fourth annual Taste of Nova Scotia Cutting Edge Culinary Competition.

“What a great opportunity to put my skills to the test…I tried to keep things simple, stay focused on the ingredients, and make the most out of them,” said Picard in a statement.

Stricter Food Regulations Announced Following E.coli Outbreak in N.B. PDF Print E-mail

MIRAMICHI, N.B. — A recent E.coli outbreak linked to a Jungle Jim's restaurant in Miramichi, N.B.that has infected 13 people, has led the department of health to toughen food safety regulations in the province.

"There's lots of restaurants in the province that haven't always had a good mark …and occasionally may even had their license removed that have jumped back and now they have full approval from us and sometimes it serves as a lesson for them to be able to provide much safer food afterwards," Dr. Denis Allard, the deputy chief medical officer of health was quoted as saying to CBC News.
