Chef Howell Sells Tempest Restaurant |

WOLFVILLE, N.S. — Chef Michael Howell and Mary Harwell, owners of the Wolfville, N.S.-based Tempest restaurant, will turn the restaurant over to new ownership, effective Aug. 1.
Chef Dave Smart, 43, the restaurant’s current chef de cuisine, will be taking the reins. A graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Ottawa, he worked at the Arc Lounge and Atelier with Marc Lepine in Ottawa.

NEWFOUNDLAND — Renee Marquis, a KFC franchise owner of 10 restaurants in Newfoundland is letting her franchise license expire so she can open healthier fare restaurants, reports the National Post.
“We have beautiful wild produce in Newfoundland; we’re surrounded by the ocean. I want to give people a fresh option, not just haul something out of a freezer or open up a tin and charge premium price for junk food.” said Marquis as quoted by the National Post.

CHARLOTTETOWN — The possibility of extending hours at private liquor stores in P.E.I. is causing debate, according to CBC News.
With five new independent stores expected to open this summer, the government is toying with the idea of allowing them to open until midnight, two hours later than when the government-run stores currently close.

HALIFAX — The Atlantica Hotel Halifax was the backdrop for last night’s black-tie dinner and induction of 20 chefs into the Canadian Culinary Federation (CCFCC) Honour Society.
Held conjunction with the CCFCC Convention, the induction dinner was hosted by Bruno Marti, Honour Society chair, who founded the group in 2010.
