HALIFAX — Organizers of Apex — a foodservice and hospitality show for the Maritimes — are preparing Halifax’s Exhibition Park for the event, which runs this weekend, from April 15 to 16.

The show begins with a charity breakfast, Sunday, April 15, with chefs from Culinary Team Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia community college cooking for show visitors. Proceeds from the breakfast will support Feed Nova Scotia.

ST. JOHN’S, N.L. — An application to open a pub on Duckworth Street in St. John’s, N.L., close to the National War Memorial, has been rejected by The Royal Canadian Legion.

Chris Andrews, musician and owner of the proposed restaurant-style pub to be named Newfoundland Embassy, pitched the idea to the city’s planning committee last month.

NOVA SCOTIA — Fisherman in Atlantic Canada worry the federal government’s plans to “modernize” the industry will destroy their business and benefit large corporations, according to The Globe and Mail.

The federal government has released the discussion paper, “The Future of Canada’s Commercial Fisheries,” which talks about “modernizing fisheries management,” but according to the paper, the plans are unclear.
