P.E.I. — Florida’s frigid temperatures continue to wreak havoc on its harvest and everyone from foodservice reps to customers are being left out in the cold as prices raise and supply shrinks.
According to the CBC News, one Subway restaurant in Charlottetown has posted a sign warning customers that sandwiches will be light on the tomatoes and green peppers.
Similar problems hold true in the town’s grocery stores. "We're in the $55 range, some people are as high as $72 for a 25-pound [11.36 kg] case," Shane Turner, general manager of Harvest Wholesale, told the CBC of his veggie purchases. "As early as probably three weeks ago, you could buy them for 28, 30 dollars."

ST. PETERS, P.E.I. — Don Anderson, an early driving force in the Prince Edward Island potato industry, died suddenly at his home in St.Peters, P.E.I. on Monday. He was 83.
While he would eventually become a major player in the global potato trade, being named the director of the P.E.I. potato marketing board in 1965 and manager in 1969, he came from humble beginnings. According to the CBC, the Atlantic Agricultural Hall of Fame inductee first began planting potatoes on a small farm settled by his great-grandfather.

According to the CBC, the new and improved diner was rebuilt to allow for more parking and 10 extra seats to serve a loyal set of patrons, who almost lost their chance to eat at the neighbourhood haunt again.
